Thirunakkara temple is situated adjacent to the Kottayam town private bus stand. There are some good paintings on Thirunakkara temple walls. The Koothambalam which is known as "temple theatre" in English language is one of the most celebrated attractions in the Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple Kerala. The Thirunakkara Shiva temple is located at a distance of around 1.5 kilometers from the Railway Station at Kottayam. The Phalgunna Utsav festival is held in March or April, every year at Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple Kottayam.
