Ayyappara

Kottayam Ayyappara

There is a legend in Kerala that the five Pandava brothers of the Mahabharatha stayed near Ayyappara rock during their exile. Ayyappara is actually located 2000 feets above sea level & spread over twenty acres. The name "Ayyappara" is said to be a updated version of the original term Anchupara that means "five rocks" in Malayalam. Also there is another legend that the name "Ayyappara" owes its origin to the Ayyappa Temple located there. Ayyappa temple has 4 pillars which hold up a flat piece of rock that forms the roof. There is also a cave that can admit over 15 people on one side of the rock. We can view the sunset from here. The sunset viewing from here with the cool mountain breeze is a gracious experience.
